Pitt Statement on NDP Blocking Wildrose Motion on Children in Care Committee

EDMONTON, AB: Wildrose Shadow Human Services Minister Angela Pitt released the following statement on the decision by NDP members of the Legislature to vote against a motion to develop the terms of reference for a Select Special Child Intervention Review Committee of the Legislative Assembly:

“I’m deeply disappointed that NDP members of the Legislature chose to withhold unanimous consent for a motion that would provide constructive terms in creating an effective all-party committee for children in care.

“Today, the NDP showed that they are going against opposition parties that are trying to get to work on this issue. Only NDP members voted against this motion.

“Wildrose House Leader Nathan Cooper clearly stated that he would be open to input or changes on the terms of reference proposed.

“We want a committee that is more than a public relations exercise, but provides meaningful changes throughout the system. We hope today’s unfortunately partisan vote doesn’t stop that from happening.”
