Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism, responsible for sport, has issued the following statement in advance of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro:

Canada Paralympic Team 2016“Congratulations to Alberta’s 19 athletes and six coaches representing our country in eight sports at the Rio Paralympic Games.

“Team Canada’s performance at the Olympic Games a few weeks ago was amazing and I anticipate nothing less from these athletes at the Paralympic Games. I am very proud of this diverse and talented group of athletes. They inspire us as examples of the determination, pursuit of excellence and high performance that Alberta is known for.

“Once again, these athletes demonstrate that Alberta is home to, and is the training ground for, some of the best in Canada. We are very proud of our continuing commitment to creating inclusive, healthy and active living environments that we know will help develop future generations of Canada’s best Paralympians.

“Good luck and best wishes to our athletes, coaches and support staff in Rio. I invite all Albertans to join in and cheer them on as they compete on the world stage at the Rio Paralympic Games Sept. 7-18. Go Canada go!”
