Hunter Statement on Higher Unemployment in Calgary

Wildrose News Release bannerEDMONTON, AB: Wildrose Shadow Jobs Minister Grant Hunter released the following statement after new Statistics Canada data showed that unemployment has increased to 9.5 per cent in Calgary:

“Today’s job data shows that while the NDP’s ideological agenda is failing to create real job growth anywhere in the province – it’s having a particularly damaging effect on Calgary, where unemployment is fast approaching 10 per cent.

“These sobering statistics from our largest city should be a wake-up call for the NDP government.

“We’ve asked the NDP to come back to the house early and repeal the damaging economic policies that are holding back our economy right now, but they just won’t act in accordance with common sense.

“Whether it’s the personal or business tax hikes, minimum wage increases or the looming introduction of a $3 billion carbon tax, the NDP is failing to protect jobs in Calgary during these tough economic times.

“My heart goes out to all the families in Calgary and across the province who are struggling with job losses right now.”
