Giving Tuesday is today, Nov. 29th, and this time around we will be doing the giving.
Taking place after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a day dedicated to giving back. It is a day when charities, businesses and individuals unite for one reason: to celebrate giving.
Giving Tuesday started in 2012 in New York and it has now evolved into a global movement that harnesses the power of social media and marks the beginning of the giving season.
In previous years, our charitable organization has used Giving Tuesday to solicit donations and recruit volunteers but this year the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund (JPMF) will be giving back.
On Tuesday, Nov. 29th join us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram as we will be giving away safety resources and information to our followers.
Help us get #GivingSafety trending alongside #GivingTuesdayCA and, if you want us to send you free workplace and traffic safety resources, just let us know!
“Giving Tuesday has become a great day for promoting philanthropy and volunteerism and there are some amazing things that take place that day,” says JPMF Managing Director Ian Wilson.
“Millions of dollars are being raised for thousands of charities across Canada and the world. At the same time, volunteers are being connected with causes that are near and dear to them through Giving Tuesday.”
Supporting registered charities and non-profit organizations is important and a truly worthwhile endeavor and Giving Tuesday helps highlight all the great work being done by so many charitable organizations.
That’s why we thought we would do things a little differently this year.
“We wanted to focus our Giving Tuesday activity on giving safety and giving back,” says Wilson.
“For us that reflects how we operate – the idea that we never want the cost of our resources or services to be a barrier to using them. We want to create safer roads and workplaces for first responders and, ultimately, everyone. But if it is not in your budget to buy safety videos or host a safety presentation we can help.”
Wilson adds that Giving Tuesday is a fantastic opportunity for charities and non-profits to show their value and take pride in the work they do.
“Charitable organizations like ours have an important place in the world,” he says.
“We offer solutions that the corporate world cannot always offer and we illustrate important teamwork between business, government, individuals and meaningful causes.”
Thank you to everyone for supporting the JPMF and participating in Giving Tuesday!
