Speaker Wanner will host a celebration in honour of Eid al-Adha on the evening of Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at the Alberta Legislature.
“Eid al-Adha is a special opportunity for Albertans from all walks of life to come together and learn more about our Muslim communities and the Islamic faith,” said the Honourable Robert E. Wanner, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. “The Legislative Assembly of Alberta has honoured the festival of Eid al-Adha for many years, and it is important that we continue to acknowledge Alberta’s diversity through celebrations such as this.”
Eid al-Adha, the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice, occurs every year at the culmination of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

Remarks will be delivered by:
- Honourable Irfan Sabir, MLA, Minister of Human Services, on behalf of the Premier of Alberta
- Mr. Ronald Orr, MLA, on behalf of the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition
- Mr. Ric McIver, MLA, Leader of the PC Opposition
- Mr. Masood Peracha, Chair, Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities
The program will include a recitation and translation from the Holy Quran as well as a charitable presentation to Edmonton’s Food Bank.
