Cochrane RCMP Investigate Report of Found Human Remains


Cochrane Alberta – Cochrane RCMP and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating a report of possible human remains found near the community of Redwood Meadows.

On May 11, 2017 at 12:33 p.m. Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of found bones believed to be human in a remote location south of the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 8, near Redwood Meadows.   The RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Major Crimes South attended the location and transported the bones to the Medical Examiner’s Office pending further examination.  A search of the nearby area was completed by RCMP Police Dog Services later the same day.

An additional search for evidence to assist in identifying where the bones originated from is planned for today Friday, May 12, 2017. Utilizing members of the RCMP’s Special Tactical Operations, the search will include the area along Highway 22.  Investigators are asking members of the public to stay away from this area while the police operation is ongoing.  Traffic along Highway 22 may be impacted while the search takes place.

The investigation will continue to work with the medical examiners officer to determine whether or not the remains are human. Additional details will be provided when the information has been confirmed by police.
