The Bar U Ranch National Historic Site will host the annual Old Time Ranch Rodeo on Sunday, August 21. And for the first time ever, a Cowboy Concert will be held on Saturday, August 27.
The Old Time Ranch Rodeo features the men, women and horses that make their living ranching in southern Alberta. The events are based on actual ranch activities and the competitors “ride for the brand” of their ranches, which refers to their loyalty to their ranches. The winning team rides away with silver trophy buckles and a chance to match their skills against the best ranches in western Canada at the Heritage Ranch Rodeo in Edmonton this fall. The Old Time Ranch Rodeo begins with the Ranch Horse Competition at 10 a.m., followed by the rodeo at 1 p.m.
Shine up your boots and mingle with working cowboys and cowgirls at the Cowboy Concert. The venue overlooks the historic Bar U Ranch headquarters site in the picturesque Pekisko Creek valley and features a rib supper and the live music of local musicians Darren Johnson and Bucking Horse Moon. Bring your lawn chair or blanket for a unique after-hours experience. Doors open at 5 p.m., supper at 5:30 p.m. with the concert running from 7-9 p.m. The Friends of the Bar U Historic Ranch Association have tickets for the Cowboy Concert event for sale online at baru.eventbrite.ca. Tickets are $50 in advance.
