Banff RCMP Investigate Fatal Collision Involving Bus

Banff, Alberta – This morning, at approximately 10:01 A.M., members of the Banff RCMP detachment responded to a report that two people were struck by a tour bus as it rolled forward and down the embankment at the Castle Mountain Viewpoint located west of Castle Mountain junction on Highway 1.

Initial investigation has determined that the passengers had exited the bus when it arrived at the Castle Mountain Viewpoint this morning.  A man and a woman were standing in front of the bus as it rolled forward striking them and going over the embankment.  The bus came to rest at the bottom of the embankment.  No one else is believed to have been injured during this incident.

A 53 year-old woman is deceased and a 55 year-old man sustained injuries requiring medical evacuation by STARS to a Calgary area hospital.  Police are on scene with emergency crews as they continue their investigation of this matter.

No further information is available at this time, however, should more details be confirmed through the investigation, an update will be provided to media.
