On November 3, 2016, during the course of ASIRT’s investigation into the CPS officer-involved shooting that occurred on that date, ASIRT investigators became aware of an additional use of force incident involving CPS officers, and immediately notified the executive director.
On November 4, 2016, pursuant to the provisions of Section 46.2(4) of the Police Act, ASIRT’s executive director initiated a separate investigation into the actions of two police officers.
ASIRT is investigating the circumstances surrounding the force used on the 20-year-old man who was driving the stolen Honda Civic after he was removed from the vehicle while being taken into custody. It is not believed that the use of force caused any additional injury to the man who remains in hospital as a result of gunshot wounds received from the officer-involved shooting.
ASIRT investigators confirm the CPS officer who discharged his police service weapon is not one of the officers involved in this use of force investigation.
With ASIRT’s investigation underway, no further information will be available until the investigation is complete.
