Airdrie RCMP Investigate Two Injury and One Fatal Collision in 2 Hours


Airdrie, AB – On September 7th, 2016, at 3:17 PM, Airdrie Rural RCMP were dispatched to a serious collision between an Acura Legend and a Pontiac Torrent on Highway 566 at Range Road 13. Rocky View Fire and EMS also attended the scene. Fire extricated a female from the Acura and she was pronounced deceased on scene. A second female from the Acura was transported to a Calgary area hospital in potentially life threatening condition.
The male in the Pontiac was transported by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital with potentially life threatening conditions.

All potential contributing factors are being investigating to determine the cause of the collision

A Collision analyst is currently on scene and traffic is being rerouted around the collision area. This is expected to be detoured till approximately 8:00 PM.

At 3:33 PM, Airdrie city RCMP were dispatched to a two vehicle collision along with Airdrie Fire and EMS, on Yankee Valley Boulevard under the Highway 2 overpass. Witnesses saw a blue Ford Focus heading westbound on Yankee Valley Boulevard sideswipe a pickup truck, go into the north ditch before swerving across all three lanes of westbound traffic then over the centre median curb and strike a black Honda Civic that was eastbound on Yankee Valley Boulevard head on. A male and female from the Civic were transported to a Calgary hospital for minor injuries, while the female driver of the Focus was transported to a Calgary area hospital to be examined.
Police are still investigating all contributing factors to determine the cause of the collision but believe that the female in the Focus was in medical distress at the time.

Traffic was rerouted from the area off Yankee Valley Boulevard for approximately 2 hours.

At 4:40 PM, Airdrie Integrated Traffic were dispatched to a 2 vehicle collision on Highway 2 near Balzac involving a motorcycle and car. RCMP, Fire and EMS all attended and found that a motorcycle had rear ended a car that was stopped due to heavy congestion. The motorcyclist, a 57 year old Drumheller resident was transported to a Calgary area hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic was down to one lane for approximately 1 1/2 hours while RCMP investigated.
