At our first meeting of our calendar year on September 3, 2013, President Tyler Bray outlined his goals and objectives for the Foothills Lions Club.

• Restoration of the Black Diamond Campground

• Completion of Lions Family Spray Park

• Retention of members

• Attract 5-8 new members this calendar year

• Support formation and mentoring of new Lions Club within our trading area

President Bray emphasized that these goals and objectives can only be accomplished with the cooperation and backing of all members.

With an increase of over 30% in membership in the Foothills Lions Club, the Executive recognized a need to better serve our new members. Therefore, Lion Glenna Hopkin has prepared a new membership orientation package which will be distributed at a special orientation meeting with a date yet to be determined. Our meetings are held at the Turner Valley Legion hall on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm and on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm. The 7:00pm meeting is a supper meeting.

Foothills Lions Club website is www.foothillslionsclub.ca where you will find current information about Club projects and events as well as a link to a Funding Request Form for those organizations seeking donations for their projects. A letter has been sent to those organizations requesting funding in the past to apprise them that due to the Black Diamond campground flooding there are limited monies available this year to disperse.

The Town of Black Diamond asked the Foothills Lions Club for help working the BBQ for the Tour of Alberta. We were happy to oblige. We started moving equipment that would be needed to our Town designated BBQ spot at 8:00am and had the final cleanup about 3:00pm. 21 members cooked hundreds of hamburgers and hot dogs with the fixings. Even though the weather was rainy, there was a great turnout and everyone enjoyed themselves. The money raised for the food sales went to the Town of Black Diamond to offset their costs in hosting the Tour of Alberta.

October 19th is Foothills Lions Pin & Collectors Club. This is a free admission event for families who want to start or add to their pin collection. For the sports enthusiasts, there will be a silent auction of sports memorabilia.
