Legacy Memorial Garden

“To Honour Our Military Veterans, Serving Military and 911 Personnel”

The new memorial garden in front of the Village Offices in Longview is progressing along nicely thanks to the weather and some hard work. Mayor McCorquindale can be found working out front most days with the rest of the volunteers.

A Dedication Ceremony will be held Saturday, September 15th starting at 1:30pm. Joining Mayor Ivor McCorquindale will be special His Honour Col. (Ret’d) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell, OC, OMM, AOE, MCS, CD, LLD, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; Minister of State (Finance) Ted Menzies MP for Macleod; Pat Stier MLA Livingstone-Macleod; Michel Jackson President Royal Canadian Legion Turner Valley Branch #78; Trent J. Yanko, President and CEO, Legacy Oil + Gas Inc. as well as community members and friends.

Children from Longview School have been invited to participate as well as the local 4H group. The ranching community will be represented by their brands that will grace the mural that is in progress by local artist Matts Zoumer. This mural will be the backdrop for the beautiful garden, complete with memorial benches.

There has been a great deal of fundraising and grants, to the tune of $55,000, gathered for this special project and not one cent of tax money was used. There was also plenty of hard work and dedication by the citizens of Longview, but that’s how things are done in Longview. You should all be very proud of your accomplishments!
